Climate

At latitude 50°N, the islands making the Bailiwick of Guernsey lie essentially within the mild westerly airflow that searates the sub-tropical high pressure belt to the south, and the more northerly track of Atlantic low pressure systems. They are offered protection by the English mainland some 60 miles to the north, and the much nearer French coastline to the east and south.

Climate of the Channel Islands

The local climate is tempered by its maritime position, allowing a mild temperate climate that does not suffer the extremes of temperatures experienced in more landlocked areas. Owing to the shelter offered by their relatively giant neighbours, the islands escape the worst of the winds often associated with offshore locations. The Channel Islands experience mild, damp and cloudy winters with warm, drier and sunnier summers.
